Welcome back to USMA for 2012

Training has kicked off for the new year at Clayton, Carlton and Ashburton. Our first major event for the year was the annual Anglesea Training Camp, held over four days at the Anglesea Recreation Centre. Sabum Cariotis presented a great program for us, covering fundamentals, patterns, self-defence and sparring. We also held a tournament for camp participants featuring patterns and sparring for all age groups.

This year we had a fantastic group of junior kids and their parents in addition to our teenagers and adults – it was a great way for the juniors and seniors to get to know each other and for parents to get a better feel for the full scope of martial arts training in a family-friendly martial arts school.

One of the highlights of the camp was the grading on Saturday afternoon – after three hours on the floor, we are very proud to welcome Boosabum Luke Ravlic to the rank of first dan black belt, Boosabum Perry Kofos to the rank of second dan, and Boosabum Yogendra Kumar to the rank of third degree. Congratulations also to the coloured belts who graded.

Anglesea Camp 2011 report

The Anglesea Camp for 2011 was a fantastic start to the year – in the words of Mr Ravlic:

Bigger, better, best – USMA 2011 Anglesea Training Camp – THREE
It’s been a huge four days of taekwon do training, learning and fun
Whilst the training was great the fellowship was even greater
Thanks to ALL for making this event such a great success!!”

Sabum Cariotis visits Greece to take part in TAEKWONDO camp

Sabum Cariotis took part in a training camp at the foot hills of MT OLYMPUS, GREECE, from August 2nd until 10th 2010.

The training camp was directed by Master Vasilis Alexandris, 8th degree black belt.

Training was twice a day from 8:00 – 9:30 am and from 7:30 – 9:30 pm at night in 30 to 37 degrees heat outdoors. We covered Patterns, Basic Sparring, Special Street Fight style techniques from the ITF Tuls, as well as self defence. What was also fun was going to the beach immediately after Training. It’s a pleasure to work with people of that calibre and it was great to see other ITF Practioners from England , Ireland, Germany, and Russia.

Next year Master ALEXANDRIS has added a tournament at the end of the camp which includes Patterns, Sparring and Self Defence.

Due to the magnificent location of the training camp, we were fortunate to visit ancient Vergina and the underground tomb of Philip II of Macedon.

Anglesea Camp

kids going to beachThe 2010 Anglesea Training Camp was our kick-off event for the New Year. We had a great mix of old and new participants, with the camp highlights being nighttime pushups on the veranda for energetic young boys, beach training in the (gentle) surf, and the USMA Indoor Soccer Challenge (with the winning goal scored by Alec!). The food and venue was great and we all enjoyed a vigorous start to the new year of training, where self-defence will be the key.
