Festival Time!

Each year our students participate in community festivals where they demonstrate the martial art of Taekwon-Do as created by General Choi.

The Caulfield festival is at Princes Park, Caulfield on Sunday February 16th from 12 noon until 4 pm.

The Clayton festival is outside our Clayton dojang the following week on Sunday February 23rd from 12 noon until 6 pm. We will be having a fundraising barbecue as well.

All students are welcome to participate in the demonstrations at the festival, and please come to support our sausage sizzle!

USMA 20th Anniversary Gala Night – Sat 24th August

In 2013, USMA celebrates its 20th year, a major milestone for our martial arts enterprise. For two decades now, USMA has taught Taekwondo to communities across Melbourne, promoting self-defence, fitness and fostering team spirit.

Since our inception in 1993 we have forged proud partnerships with the YMCA, honing exceptional talent from our students at Ashburton and Carlton recreation centres. We have collaborated with Victorian schools in Kew, Ormond and Preston, helping young learners to thrive in an inclusive, confidence-building atmosphere. Powerful demonstrations at Melbourne festivals have illustrated the might of our Taekwondo family, while we quietly built USMA’s Dojang – our official headquarters – our home.

For years we have nurtured strong ties with Taekwondo organisations interstate and abroad. Our club prides itself on the achievements of its students. We are proud that many USMA members have competed successfully not only in local tournaments, but also in overseas championships, showcasing our skills – in sparring, patterns, special technique and power breaking – on a world stage.

With more than 5000 registrations and counting, we would like to take a night to reflect on everything that has made the USMA journey so memorable. Friends, current and past students, we welcome you to join us in celebrating this momentous occasion!

USMA Instructors participate in seminar

On Sunday June 10th and Monday 11th, three USMA Instructors participated in an ITF-sanctioned seminar conducted by Grand Master Choi Jung Hwa, 9th degree blackbelt and son of the legendary Founder of Taekwon-Do, General Choi Hong Hi. This seminar offered a great opportunity to train some of the finer points of the martial art.

Welcome back to USMA for 2012

Training has kicked off for the new year at Clayton, Carlton and Ashburton. Our first major event for the year was the annual Anglesea Training Camp, held over four days at the Anglesea Recreation Centre. Sabum Cariotis presented a great program for us, covering fundamentals, patterns, self-defence and sparring. We also held a tournament for camp participants featuring patterns and sparring for all age groups.

This year we had a fantastic group of junior kids and their parents in addition to our teenagers and adults – it was a great way for the juniors and seniors to get to know each other and for parents to get a better feel for the full scope of martial arts training in a family-friendly martial arts school.

One of the highlights of the camp was the grading on Saturday afternoon – after three hours on the floor, we are very proud to welcome Boosabum Luke Ravlic to the rank of first dan black belt, Boosabum Perry Kofos to the rank of second dan, and Boosabum Yogendra Kumar to the rank of third degree. Congratulations also to the coloured belts who graded.
